About

GameSync San Diego, September 8th. Free. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Part 3 launches and GameSync opens the floor for a community gathering — the day the next chapter of the most debated Final Fantasy remake arrives, played together in a room that has been waiting for this since Part 2's ending.

The launch day gathering is the version of a game release that you can't replicate by downloading it alone. The theories that ran through the community between Part 2 and Part 3, the questions that carried over, the speculation about where the remake diverges from the original — all of that arrives at the screen simultaneously, in a room where everyone is finding out the answers at the same time.

Free to come. September 8th at GameSync, 2860 Main St. Multiple stations running means you can play or watch, join a session that's ahead of yours, or start from the beginning alongside someone who hasn't touched the previous games. gamesync.us for the event details. The Final Fantasy community is specific and present in San Diego. Be in the room when Part 3 begins.

Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy
Sep 25, 2026 From $50 Greek Theatre, 2700 N Vermont Ave,…

The Greek Theatre. September 26th, 2026. From $50. Distant Worlds brings Final Fantasy's orchestral catalog to one of the best outdoor amphitheaters in the country — decades of music performed by a full symphony orchestra in a venue where the sound wraps the audience from the hillside and the Los Angeles sky goes dark above the Hollywood Hills. If you've played Final Fantasy — any of them, any era — you already know what these pieces sound like in your memory. What you don't know yet is what they sound like performed live, at full orchestral size, outside, in a room of thousands of people who have the same memories you do. The difference is categorical. The music that was a fixed quantity in your headphones becomes something that takes physical space, that arrives in waves, that you share in real time with everyone around you. Distant Worlds has been touring for over a decade for a reason: the experience it creates is not available any other way. The Greek Theatre is the right venue — the acoustics work outdoors here in a way they don't everywhere, and the setting gives the production a scale that indoor venues approximate but don't match. Tickets at distantworlds.com. The orchestra tunes while the sun sets over the hills. The first piece starts and you understand immediately why people keep coming back.

In 4 days · Jun 6 – Jun 13 Game Empire, 5037 Shawline St, San…

Game Empire San Diego, 5037 Shawline St. June 6th. The Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy Prerelease at Game Empire — the set that the overlap between Magic players and JRPG fans has been waiting for, on the day it's first legal, with the sealed format that makes every player's experience equally unpredictable. The Final Fantasy set is the kind of Magic release where the IP does extra work. The card names, the mechanics built around specific game moments, the art that references thirty years of the franchise — these land differently for players who grew up with the games. The Prerelease sealed format means you're building your deck from what you open, which means the sorceries and creatures and enchantments you pull aren't guaranteed. You build with what you get and play what you built. magic.wizards.com for the full Final Fantasy set spoiler and mechanic previews. June 6th at Game Empire San Diego. The prerelease pod runs through the day — show up early for your allocation. The Final Fantasy set is one of those release events where the whole store is excited before the first pack opens. MTG Final Fantasy Prerelease: Materia Mastery — Bards & Cards
In 4 days · Jun 6 ✨ New $30 936 5th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

Magic: The Gathering meets Final Fantasy in the most anticipated crossover set in the game's history. Before the cards hit shelves, Bards and Cards in Downtown San Diego opens the Final Fantasy Prerelease with the Materia Mastery tournament — a sealed event where your six boosters determine your fate, just like a materia loadout before a boss fight. Limited to 16 players, which means table space is real and you actually talk to the people across from you. Pack-per-win prizing keeps things competitive without the grinder energy of a large open. The set pulls from Final Fantasy VII through XVI — iconic characters, summons, and bosses from across the franchise rendered as Magic cards for the first time. If you grew up with both hobbies, this is the event you have been waiting for since the crossover was announced. Located in the Gaslamp Quarter. Doors at 12:30, first packs cracked at 1 PM. Register in advance — 16-player cap means this fills quickly once the community learns it exists.

When the afternoon crowd clears out, Moogle Madness opens — same six-booster sealed format, same pack-per-win prizing, but with Gaslamp Quarter Saturday night energy behind it. Limited to 16 players. Magic: The Gathering's Final Fantasy crossover is the most ambitious IP collaboration the game has ever produced, pulling characters and summons from VII through XVI into a fully playable set. If you missed the afternoon session or prefer playing at night, this is your shot before the set hits stores anywhere else. Cards in hand on Saturday evening before they are available in retail. MTG Final Fantasy Commander Party — FREE at Bards & Cards
Jun 26, 2026 ✨ New Free 936 5th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

Three weeks after the Final Fantasy set drops, Bards and Cards hosts the Commander Party — a casual, free event designed for players who want to play the cards without grinding rankings. Commander is Magic at its most social: four-player pods, no elimination pressure, and something unexpected happening every turn. The event distributes exclusive Phoenix Down promo cards just for attending, so you leave with collectibles regardless of game results. The Final Fantasy crossover is unusually well-suited for Commander because the legendary characters from across the franchise translate directly into commanders — build a deck around Cloud, Tifa, Lightning, or any number of iconic figures from whichever game defined your relationship with the series. Free admission, inclusive format, and a store that takes its community seriously. This is what a local game store is supposed to feel like. No competitive pressure, just people who showed up because they love both things. Downtown San Diego, Gaslamp Quarter. Doors open at 5:30 PM, games begin at 6.
