About

July 17, 2026: Opening Day at Del Mar, and there is nothing in Southern California sports quite like it. The summer meet of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club opens on the third Friday of July with a tradition running since Bing Crosby and Pat O'Brien opened the gates in 1937 — and Opening Day is as much fashion show as horse race, a gathering that dresses up more completely than any other day on San Diego County's sports calendar. The Pacific Ocean is visible from the upper grandstand. The stretch run comes toward you from the far turn in a way no other racetrack geometry quite replicates. Del Mar's first post is 2pm and the feature races run through late afternoon — bring cash for the mutuel windows, find a spot in the infield or claim a picnic table on the apron, and let the afternoon become its own thing. 'Where the surf meets the turf' is not a marketing line. Standing in the grandstand with the ocean two miles to the west, you understand why they built it here. Del Mar Opening Day is a community event as much as a racing event — a social gathering where groups coordinate outfits, book tables in the Turf Club months in advance, and treat the entire day as a summer ritual. The crowd on Opening Day includes serious horseplayers in the clubhouse, fashion-forward groups in the infield, and families making their annual pilgrimage to the track. 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd in Del Mar. No Coaster service on this date — drive and park on-site or use the shuttle from nearby lots. Arrive early for Opening Day ceremony programming. General admission available. Reserved seating and Turf Club access require advance booking.

35th Annual Murrieta Birthday Bash 2026
Today · Jun 27 Free 40600 California Oaks Road, Murrie…

Every June, the city of Murrieta throws itself a birthday party at California Oaks Sports Park -- and 35 years in, it has not gotten old. The 35th Annual Murrieta Birthday Bash on June 27, 2026 runs from 2 PM to 9 PM and packs in a Kid Zone, a Firefighter Hosedown, local vendors, live music from an opening act and a headlining band, and a fireworks show at 9 PM that closes the night the way a summer night should close. Free to attend, rain or shine. Murrieta incorporated in 1991, and this is how the city has marked the occasion every year since -- the people who came as kids now bring their own, and the people who grew up here and moved away still come back for this one. California Oaks Sports Park holds the whole thing without breaking a sweat: open grass, room for everyone, and a sky wide enough for the fireworks to do their job.

K-Pop Festival at the San Diego County Fair 2026
Tomorrow · Jun 28 $22 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, …

There is a section of the San Diego K-pop fanbase that does not make the drive to KCON or Crypto.com Arena. Not because the trip is too far — because the home crowd is the crowd they want. The County Fair K-Pop day was built for them. A full day at Del Mar — performances, fan activations, photo zones, the choreography pop-ups that turn into impromptu group dances when the right song comes on — anchored to the fairgrounds rather than dropped into an arena built for somebody else's event. Fair admission covers the whole day. The fairgrounds sit on the coast, which matters because every previous K-pop event in this region was held in a parking lot in downtown LA. The people who show up to this are the ones who have been waiting for the K-pop community in San Diego to be visible to itself. They will recognize each other. That is the point of the day. San Diego County Fair, Del Mar Fairgrounds. June 28, 2026. Gates open 11 AM. K-Pop programming runs into the evening. General fair admission covers access to the festival.

Sukeban World Championship Fight Night — Anime Expo 2026
In 6 days · Jul 3 51.6 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

This is not a wrestling show with an anime theme. It is a convergence: Harajuku fashion aesthetics, anime character energy, live music, and genuine athletic competition fused into one arena experience. Sukeban is Japan's premier female pro wrestling league — and its first-ever World Championship Fight arrives at Anime Expo 2026 on July 3rd at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The league brings rival girl gangs from Tokyo — the Harajuku Stars, Cherry Bomb Girls, and Vandals stables — fighting for a championship belt on the biggest stage in the league's history. Special appearances confirmed. Every match is a story arc. Every outfit is a character declaration. The room this fills: anime fans who also watch wrestling. Sneakerheads who follow Harajuku drops. AEW and WWE fans who've been waiting for something that hits different — aesthetically, athletically, culturally. Sukeban occupies an intersection no other event touches: J-fashion, pro wrestling, anime convention, live performance. Ticketed separately from AX general admission to keep the room committed. Entry requirements: valid Anime Expo credential (4-day or any 1-day pass) plus a separate Sukeban event ticket. GA Floor (standing): $51.60. Balcony A (seated): $101.60. VIP Ringside: $151.60. Tickets at leapevents.com — limited capacity.

Copa Del Rave: World Cup 2026 Watch Parties — Academy LA
In 7 days · Jul 4 – Jul 5 Academy LA, 6021 Hollywood Blvd, L…

Los Angeles has an unexpected World Cup tradition: part soccer watch party, part EDM rave, part cultural celebration. Copa Del Rave turns FIFA match days into full-scale events at Academy LA. The 2026 FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals (July 4-5) bring Copa Del Rave to its peak intensity. Match nights pair live DJ sets from world-class talent — including Claude VonStroke, Ardalan, DJ Minx, and curator crews representing Afrobeats, Reggaeton, Haitian, and Brazilian musical communities — with live soccer on the big screen, multi-room sound, and the kind of crowd energy that only happens when your country is playing. What makes Copa Del Rave different from a normal sports bar: the music is not background. The DJs set the emotional tempo of the match. When your team scores, the drop hits. The diaspora crews — Afrobeats To The World, Gasolina, Reggaeton Rave, Haitian Spotlight — turn each match into a cultural homecoming. Fans who have never been to a rave and ravers who have never watched soccer both belong here. QF Watch Parties run July 4-5 at Academy LA (Hollywood). Tickets available at Academy LA and copadelrave.com. 21+. Doors open at 9pm.

Dum Dum Fest 2026 — Los Angeles
Today · Jun 27 – Jun 28 Ticketed — see Ticketmaster 1822 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, C…

Dum Dum Fest returns to The Echo in Echo Park for its fourth year as Los Angeles's underground mixed-genre music festival. Born from Dum Dum Zine, a DIY culture publication celebrating the city's subcultural edges, the festival spans two nights across late June and brings together darkwave, Afropunk, post-punk, garage rock, and shoegaze on the same bill. The Echo at 1822 Sunset Blvd is one of the best small venues in Los Angeles: intimate, loud, and full of people who know the words. Arrive early on both nights for good position. This is not a corporate festival. There are no brand activations, no VIP lounges, no influencer pit. There is a stage, a crowd, and music that earns its audience. The community that shows up for Dum Dum Fest is the same one that buys the zine, goes to the shows year-round, and tells their friends. If you are on the inside of Echo Park's music scene, you already know about this. If you are on the outside, this is the entry point. Tickets available via Ticketmaster. Both Friday and Saturday nights are separate tickets. All ages unless noted on individual show listings. Doors typically at 7 PM, music at 8 PM.

GameSync San Diego, 2860 Main St. June 27th. $10. The GameSync Monthly Open in June — the end-of-spring competitive gaming tournament where the season's first half gets its honest accounting, and the players who have been building their games since the new year find out what they've actually built. The players who will be making runs at major events later in the year use the June Monthly to benchmark themselves before the summer calendar gets serious. June 27th at GameSync, 2860 Main St. gamesync.us for the title list and bracket format. Show up prepared. The GameSync Monthly draws the competitive players who have been coming all year. GCW Amerikas Most Wanted
Today · Jun 27 Ukrainian Culture Center, 4315 Mel…

Game Changer Wrestling comes to Los Angeles for GCW Amerikas Most Wanted on June 27, 2026 at the Ukrainian Culture Center. GCW is the most acclaimed independent wrestling promotion in the world right now — multiple Wrestling Observer and Pro Wrestling Illustrated awards, a devoted international fanbase, and a roster of talent that includes names you won't find anywhere else. The Ukrainian Culture Center in East Hollywood is a venue that GCW returns to because it works: close-in seating, great sight lines, and a crowd that knows exactly what it wants. GCW shows in Los Angeles have sold out consistently and the energy is unlike anything else on the independent circuit. GCW's style blends technical wrestling, death matches, and unexpected crossover events — they have booked talent from Japan, Mexico, Europe, and the American independent scene on the same card. Blake Christian, Mance Warner, Alec Price, Effy, and the rest of the GCW roster bring a style that major promotions won't touch. This is a genuine underground wrestling event. There are no luxury suites, no corporate sponsorship activations, no watered-down presentation. It is wrestlers, fans, and the shared understanding that what happens in the ring tonight is as real as professional wrestling gets. 18+ for some shows — check GCW's official ticket listing. General admission, doors open one hour before bell time.

LoL Mid-Season Invitational 2026
Tomorrow · Jun 28 – Jul 12 Daejeon Convention Center II, Daej…

Daejeon. The Daejeon Convention Center II, South Korea. Sixteen teams, one bracket, and the mid-season argument that settles nothing but ignites everything about which region actually has the best League of Legends in the world. The Mid-Season Invitational 2026 runs June 28th — and if you've followed the LCS or any international league this split, you already know which narratives are arriving with the teams. MSI is the first international event where the split's breakout teams meet squads they haven't faced before. The power rankings that looked obvious domestically get tested in real time, and the gaps that existed in February may have closed by June — or widened in ways nobody predicted. The group stage is where theories get stress-tested. The bracket is where they break. Watch parties and broadcast events run at gaming bars and esports venues across San Diego and Los Angeles for every MSI match day — find your venue early, because the semifinals and finals draw the kind of crowds that require arriving before the doors open. The full broadcast schedule is at lolesports.com/msi. If you follow this game, this is the match window where the year starts to make sense.

You found your people.

They didn't know each other before Falkor either.
