DESCRIPTION:The final Saturday of the Del Mar summer meet arrives in early September\, and Closing Weekend carries a quality that Opening Day cannot replicate — the season concluding\, the horses having run their best on this track\, and a crowd that has been here regularly all summer saying goodbye until next July. Del Mar's racing calendar closes with the Del Mar Mile and supporting stakes on the final Sunday\, but the Saturday before the finale has its own character: feature races at multiple distances\, the grandstand at summer-peak attendance\, and the particular melancholy of watching a perfect season arrive at its last complete day. First post at 2pm. The grandstand fills earlier than usual. The crowd that arrives knows the summer is almost over and intends to watch the last of it properly.
