DESCRIPTION:El Mirage Dry Lake is one of the last places in the United States where you can watch purpose-built land speed vehicles run flat-out across an ancient lake bed. The Southern California Timing Association has sanctioned racing here since 1948\, and the tradition continues in 2026 with a full meet in May.\n\nThe May 16-17 meet draws streamliners\, lakester bodies\, roadsters\, motorcycles\, and modified production cars all making timed runs across the measured course on El Mirage Dry Lake in Adelanto. Speeds regularly exceed 200 mph on the dry lake surface — some exotic streamliners push well past that.\n\nEl Mirage is genuinely remote. From the Los Angeles Basin\, take I-15 north to Victorville\, then north on US-395 and west on Sheep Creek Road. There are no services on-site and very limited facilities nearby. Bring water\, food\, sun protection\, and chairs. The environment is desert — hot\, dusty\, and windy with no shade. But the experience is completely unlike any other motorsport event: you are standing feet from machinery that goes faster than most aircraft.\n\nSpectator admission is charged at the gate. The SCTA runs multiple classes across both days\, with timing sheets posted at the officials' trailer. This is a working timing meet\, not a show — the crews are racing\, not displaying.
