DESCRIPTION:You can smell the sweets shops before you have found anywhere to park\, and on this one morning of the year the whole street smells like that at once — mithai and frying chaat and marigolds\, along a mile of Pioneer Boulevard that carries more Indian commerce than anywhere else in the Western United States.\n\nThen the procession starts. Dance troupes working classical and folk forms\, school groups\, community associations\, floats built to represent regions that do not always agree back home and are perfectly content to share a street here. Tens of thousands come in from across Southern California for it. Afterward the shops stay open late and the parade turns into dinner — dosa\, chaat\, mithai\, fresh juice\, all of it within walking distance.\n\nFree\, on Pioneer Blvd in Little India\, Artesia\, just off the 91. Street parking goes early.\n\nTake the friend who has been meaning to eat here for years and has been too shy to walk in alone.
