DESCRIPTION:The same stretch of pavement that carries the red carpet in spring gets marching bands and convertibles on the Sunday after Thanksgiving\, and it has been doing so since before most of the studios along it existed.\n\nWhat separates this from every other holiday parade is that the entertainment industry showing up is not a booking — it is the neighborhood. Grand Marshals\, celebrities on floats\, high school bands bused in from across the state\, themed builds rolling west along the boulevard before turning south\, the whole route laid directly over the Walk of Fame. Half a million people watch from the curb and many more from a couch.\n\nGrandstand seats sell\; behind them the curb is free. The Metro is the only sane way in\, since parking near the route barely exists\, and the free viewing rewards anyone willing to turn up hours early with a thermos.\n\nBring the kid who has only ever seen a parade on television. Stand them right where the bands turn the corner.
