DESCRIPTION:Come December the largest small-craft harbor in Southern California stops being a parking lot for boats and turns into a slow-moving light show — sailboats\, powerboats\, kayaks\, everything in between\, gliding the channels after dark with masts and hulls wrapped in color.\n\nThe reason it is worth standing in the cold is the repeat offenders. Crews come back year after year and build on last year's design\, so the displays keep escalating until somebody has clearly spent most of a year on a boat that will be lit for a single evening. Trophies go by vessel size and decoration theme\, and the judging stand sits near Fisherman's Village where the parade passes close enough that you can see the wiring.\n\nWatch from the jetty\, the public docks\, or a waterfront table if you booked one. Residents light their own balconies. Spectating costs nothing.\n\nBring somebody who claims to hate the holidays. Hand them something warm and point at the water.
