DESCRIPTION:You can see a fighter's family cheering from the first row\, and the referee knows everyone by name — that is the version of boxing this is\, the one that argues its most compelling form was never the pay-per-view spectacle but the neighborhood version\, under string lights\, a stone's throw from the bay. San Diego's charity boxing night returns to Little Italy\, honoring local boxing promoter Bobby Suitcase Delgado.\n\nNow in its fourth year\, Punches in the Piazza brings twelve three-round amateur bouts to the open-air Piazza della Famiglia on West Date Street\, surrounded by the neighborhood's signature warmth. This is grassroots San Diego boxing at its best: local fighters from throughout Southern California\, a crowd of neighborhood regulars\, boxing families\, and first-timers who wandered in on a beautiful Friday evening and could not leave. All proceeds benefit Washington Elementary School and the Bobby D. Foundation's youth boxing programs.
