You stand on sand with the Pacific at your back while aircraft come down the shoreline low enough to read the markings\, and a couple of million people up and down the coast lose their minds at the same instant. For something at this scale to happen over a public beach\, free\, open to whoever walks up\, is genuinely unusual.\n\nThree days each October. The sand fills early on the main days\, the premium viewing areas are ticketed and go fast\, and the pier is the best free vantage point there is.\n\nBring the kid who looks up every single time something flies over the house.
