DESCRIPTION:Roller derby built itself entirely through community. WFTDA leagues form through skaters who want to compete\, not through franchises looking for markets. Orange County Roller Derby has been part of the SoCal flat-track scene for years\, and the August 29 bout at The Rinks in Irvine is their Best of the West Coast Showdown: a full afternoon of competition running 3PM to 7PM.\n\nThe afternoon opens with Junior Roller Derby at 3PM\, then transitions to the main bout at 5PM: OCRD Vitamin C Squad versus Ventura County Derby Darlins. Two teams\, four hours\, one rink. The Rinks at 3150 Barranca Parkway in Irvine is a regular OCRD competition venue the community knows.\n\nFor those who have never watched flat-track roller derby live: the contact is real\, the strategy is real\, and by the middle of the first jam you will understand exactly what you have been missing. The physicality is obvious. The chess-like positioning is what keeps people coming back.\n\nFamily attendance encouraged. Children under three free. Spectators should bring their own chairs for floor seating. Online tickets available through OCRD's website before the event.
