SUMMARY:San Pedro First Thursday Art Walk — Monthly\, Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:Rent decides what art gets made\, which is why the most interesting work in Los Angeles is usually happening in whichever neighborhood the rest of the city has not gotten around to yet.\n\nRight now that is the port. San Pedro has the building stock\, big and industrial and cheap enough that a painter can afford a real studio\, and once a month the galleries and workspaces along Sixth Street open their doors and let the neighborhood walk through. The work skews serious and strange\, because San Pedro has no reputation to protect and therefore nothing to play safe for. The waterfront sits a few blocks away. The crowd is residents\, working artists\, and whoever heard about this and drove the 110 all the way down.\n\nSixth Street in San Pedro\, the first Thursday evening of each month\, free.\n\nGo once with somebody who thinks they have already seen everything this city does.
