DESCRIPTION:Tim Mays believed San Diego deserved a room where the people who made post-punk could still play to two hundred faces close enough to read. So the Casbah has booked them — for thirty-five years and counting — in a converted Middletown rectangle that holds nothing fancy except the people who keep showing up. Kid Congo Powers came up through the Cramps\, the Gun Club\, and Nick Cave's Bad Seeds\, which is to say through three of the most influential bands of the last half century\, and he is still touring with the Pink Monkey Birds playing the songs that taught everybody else what the songs could be. The room sells out for shows like this not because anyone has marketed it but because the regulars text the regulars and the regulars buy the tickets. Sunday night\, 21+\, doors at eight\, openers at eight-thirty. Tickets through the Casbah's own site — they have always sold their own.
