DESCRIPTION:Some races you run against the clock\; this one you run against something much harder\, together. The LA Cancer Challenge is SoCal's biggest Halloween-themed race — costumes everywhere\, a Candyland kids' zone\, a course that winds past the Bruin Bear and the John Wooden statue and finishes outside Drake Stadium on the UCLA campus — and under all the fun it is a gathering of survivors\, families\, and the people who love them\, raising money to fight pancreatic cancer through the Hirshberg Foundation. For twenty-nine years it has turned grief and hope into a costumed morning of motion\, where a kid in a dinosaur suit runs next to someone carrying a photo. You do not have to be fast. You just have to show up\, in whatever costume makes the morning lighter. The Bruin family\, the survivors\, and everyone running for a name will be on the plaza at dawn.
