SUMMARY:Bike the Bay 2026 — San Diego
DESCRIPTION:Once a year\, the Coronado Bridge closes to cars and opens to bicycles — and the view from the top\, the whole bay spread out below you with downtown glinting across the water\, is the kind of thing that rewires how you think about the city you live in.\n\nBike the Bay returns on August 23\, 2026\, starting at 7:00 AM from Embarcadero Marina Park South in downtown San Diego. The ride covers 25 miles of basically flat terrain through Coronado\, Imperial Beach\, Chula Vista\, and National City before looping back to downtown — and the bridge crossing is the centerpiece\, the one stretch of road you're never allowed on any other day of the year.\n\nThis is not a race. It's a community ride organized by the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition\, limited to 2\,500 participants\, and it fills the route with families on cruisers\, weekend warriors in lycra\, kids on training wheels with their parents running alongside\, and the occasional tandem bike that makes everyone smile. All proceeds support bike infrastructure advocacy across San Diego County.\n\nRegistration opened October 2025 and early pricing rewards planning ahead. The earlier you register\, the cheaper the entry. Bring water\, sunscreen\, and the one friend who always says they want to try cycling but never has — this is the ride that converts them. The course support includes rest stops\, mechanical assistance\, and SAG vehicles\, so nobody gets left behind.
