SUMMARY:The Midnight: Time Machines Tour — SOMA San Diego
DESCRIPTION:You know that feeling at 2 AM when you're driving and an old synth line comes on and suddenly the highway looks like a movie you starred in twenty years ago? That's The Midnight's entire catalogue\, and it's even more devastating live.\n\nTyler Lyle and Tim McEwan built a cult following by making music that sounds like the soundtrack to a John Hughes film that was never made — all neon-drenched synths\, saxophone breaks that have no business being that emotional\, and vocals that treat nostalgia like a superpower rather than a disease. Their fifth album Syndicate leans harder into the sci-fi side\, pulling from the same well that gave us Blade Runner and Stranger Things\, but the live show is where the community reveals itself. This isn't a crowd watching a band. This is a congregation of people who all independently discovered that synthwave is a feeling\, not a genre.\n\nSOMA Mainstage in San Diego hosts them September 18 at 8 PM. All ages — which matters\, because the younger fans in this scene are the ones keeping it alive. If you've never been to SOMA\, it's a raw concrete box with excellent sound\, exactly the kind of room where a synth line bounces off every wall and finds you personally. The Time Machines tour is named for good reason: two hours inside and you'll swear the decade changed around you.
