DESCRIPTION:Behind Alice Birney Elementary there is a field that\, for one Saturday every October\, becomes the kind of neighborhood gathering that people move to neighborhoods for. The University Heights Fall Festival fills Birney Joint-Use Field with live music\, food trucks\, craft beer\, and a pumpkin patch — but the word that matters most is 'neighborhood.' This is the day where the vendor behind the tamale truck has a kid at the school. Where the face painter lives three blocks away. Where the hayride circles a field you've walked past a hundred times without knowing what it could become. All proceeds go directly to the 530 students at Alice Birney\, a Title I school where at least 40% of students come from low-income families. Entry is free. The pumpkin patch is real — you pick one and take it home. The craft beer is local. The lawn games are the kind that adults pretend they're playing for the kids. October 17\, noon to 5pm.
