DESCRIPTION:The Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach is celebrating 30 years the only way that makes sense: by clearing the gallery floor and putting a wrestling ring in the middle of it. Lucha Libre Weekend runs September 25 through 27\, starting Friday evening with a book launch for Luchadores Versus Everything\, and building to Saturday night's main event where masked luchadores — El Cumbias\, Kensei\, Destiny\, Rayo Star\, Super Astro Jr.\, and more — clash under museum lighting that was never designed for a flying crossbody. This is not ironic. Lucha libre is a performing art that happens to involve a turnbuckle\, and MOLAA has always understood that Latin American art does not stop at the frame. The colorful masks\, the theatrical entrances\, the crowd that screams the way a gallery crowd never does — it is all part of the same cultural tradition. Badges available at molaa.org.
