SUMMARY:Sure Fire Soul Ensemble\, The Styletones
DESCRIPTION:Instrumental soul is music for people who have run out of things to say and would rather not be sung at about it. No lyrics to argue with. Just a Hammond organ\, a horn section\, and a rhythm section that has clearly played together for years.\n\nSure Fire Soul Ensemble are from here — a San Diego band cut from the same cloth as the Daptone records out of Brooklyn\, playing deep funk and boogaloo with the tape hiss left in on purpose. They record to analog\, which is the sort of detail that could be affectation and in their case audibly is not\; the records sound like they were found rather than made. The Styletones share the bill and the same lineage.\n\nThis is a local band on a local stage in front of people who have watched them get good over a decade. Those nights are different\, and everybody in the room knows it.\n\nDoors at eight on Saturday the twenty-first of November\; the band goes on at nine.
