SUMMARY:Spencer Krug (of Wolf Parade\, Sunset Rubdown)
DESCRIPTION:You can spend a decade with a singer's voice and never quite decide whether you like it\, which is the strange contract this particular writer has with his audience — a warble that fights the melody\, lyrics stacked with imagery that should collapse and somehow does not. Two bands' worth of people found him through the same 2005 record and then split off into camps depending on which project they followed after. Solo\, stripped to piano\, the writing has nowhere to hide and turns out to hold up completely\; the songs everybody knows loud become something quieter and more upsetting. Highland Park's old Masonic hall upstairs is a wood-floored room with real reverb and no barrier\, which is the correct setting for one person and an instrument. Music at 8:00 PM at 104 N Avenue 56\, a Tuesday. He also plays a desert date on this run\, and a number of people go to both.
