SUMMARY:Ruby Haunt
DESCRIPTION:Music recorded so quietly that you have to lean toward it is doing something deliberate — it makes the listener come to the song rather than the other way around. This duo has built a substantial following on exactly that\, slow tempos\, buried vocals\, guitar that sounds like it was recorded in a stairwell. They came out of the same eastside Los Angeles apartment-recording world that produced a lot of the current wave and have stayed at a scale where the shows still feel like a secret. Live it is louder than expected and the low end does most of the emotional work. Highland Park's upstairs hall on a Wednesday in December\, wood floors\, a few hundred people. Music at 8:00 PM at 104 N Avenue 56. Bands who stay this size on purpose build audiences who feel responsible for them\, and the room reflects it.
