SUMMARY:Marc Broussard
DESCRIPTION:Louisiana produces singers whose voices carry church in them whether or not the song is about anything holy\, and this is one of the clearer examples working now — soul phrasing over songs that are structurally closer to rock\, delivered by somebody who has been doing it since he was a teenager and has never needed a studio to sound good. He has spent two decades on a circuit of rooms this size rather than chasing anything larger\, which produced an audience that treats him as theirs. Live the band is horn-driven and the ballads are where the room goes quiet. A Saturday in a Ventura hall with a flat floor and a real crowd. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. Careers built entirely on the live room rather than on radio create audiences who bring somebody new every time.
