SUMMARY:Public Star Party at Griffith Observatory — October 2026
DESCRIPTION:The sky stopped being something you look at and became something you drive under. Not because you stopped caring — because nobody ever handed you a telescope and stood next to you while you worked out what you were seeing.\n\nOnce a month the lawn outside the observatory fills with dozens of telescopes\, and behind every one of them is an amateur astronomer from the Los Angeles Astronomical Society\, the Sidewalk Astronomers or The Planetary Society who has been waiting all month for somebody to ask them a question. That is the actual event. Not the building\, not the view of the city — the strangers with equipment they built or saved for\, who will let you look through it and then explain what you just saw.\n\nOne thing first-timers get wrong: it starts at two in the afternoon. The early hours are for the Sun through filtered scopes\, which most people have genuinely never seen\, and the crowd is thinnest then. Stay as the light goes and the same lawn becomes a different place.\n\nSaturday\, October 17\, 2 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Free\, no ticket. Griffith Observatory\, 2800 E Observatory Rd.
