When it goes well the crowd can hear the argument.\n\nHostile runs bass nights at a small East Hollywood room and has built a reputation on booking exactly this — pairings rather than headliners. Putting Benda and Vastive on one deck for a long stretch is a deliberate choice about texture\; both work the heavier\, more mechanical end of dubstep\, so rather than contrast you get escalation.\n\nThe room is the other half of it. The Vermont holds a couple hundred people\, which for bass music is the correct number — sub frequencies in a large hall dissipate\, and in a small one they are structural.
