DESCRIPTION:Two weeks before Halloween\, the people who dress like this all year round get their actual holiday\, and it looks nothing at all like the bar crawl everyone else is planning.\n\nHorrorpunk is a small and startlingly sincere world: B-movie imagery\, greaser haircuts\, songs about graveyards delivered with total commitment and absolutely no irony anywhere in the building. The West Virginia headliner has been at it since the nineties and carries a following that treats the band less like entertainment and more like a denomination — people who learned the words at fifteen and have not revised their opinion since. Two more acts sit underneath\, both leaning the same direction\, so the aesthetic holds all night instead of breaking between sets.\n\nIf you have never been in a room like this\, the thing that surprises people is how friendly it is. The look is hostile. The crowd is not.\n\nDoors at seven\, first band at eight\, a Sunday.\n\nOctober 18\, Casbah\, 2501 Kettner Blvd. Wear the jacket. San Diego runs a full calendar of this every October and it operates almost entirely by word of mouth.
