DESCRIPTION:Rockabilly in a normal bar is a costume. Rockabilly in a supper club with jungle wallpaper and a real cocktail list is closer to its natural habitat\, and almost nobody books it that way anymore.\n\nThe man is an encyclopedia with a guitar — an actual scholar of the stuff who has written books about it\, and who can play the Nashville and the Bakersfield version of the same lick back to back and tell you which session player is responsible for each one. That description sounds academic and the show is the opposite: loose\, very funny\, packed with asides and digressions that land better than most bands' songs. The band behind him is tight enough that he can wander off mid-thought and come back to find the song still there.\n\nAn early one\, deliberately. Doors at six\, music at seven\, which leaves the rest of your Sunday completely intact.\n\nOctober 18\, Lou Lou's Jungle Room inside the Lafayette Hotel\, 2223 El Cajon Blvd. Bring whoever owns a western shirt unironically. The mid-century rooms along El Cajon Boulevard have been reopening one at a time\, and this is the best-sounding one so far.
