SUMMARY:Eivor
DESCRIPTION:The Faroe Islands hold about fifty thousand people and produce weather that gets into the music. What arrives on stage is a voice doing two incompatible things at once - old Nordic folk singing\, the kind passed down in a language most of the room does not speak\, run through electronics that would not be out of place in a club. It should not cohere. It does\, and the moment it lands is usually a song with no translation offered\, where the crowd stops trying to follow the words and just takes the sound. Expect long held notes\, a lot of low end\, and a stillness in the room that is unusual for a Saturday. Worth knowing for anyone who has only heard the recordings: live\, she sings a good deal of it unaccompanied\, and the venue is small enough that you hear the room around the voice. Downtown Los Angeles\, late November\, all ages.
