SUMMARY:"Interview with the Vampire: 50th Anniversary Edition" with Leigh Bardugo\, Christopher Rice and Eric Shaw Quinn
DESCRIPTION:Fifty years ago a grieving woman in New Orleans wrote a book about a man who could not die and could not stop mourning\, and a certain kind of teenager has been finding it on a shelf ever since and recognising themselves in it immediately. That recognition is the thing being marked tonight. Anne Rice's son is on the stage - Christopher Rice\, who grew up inside the mythology and has his own career writing in its shadow - alongside Eric Shaw Quinn and Leigh Bardugo\, whose Grishaverse readers are the direct descendants of everybody who read Louis and Lestat too young. The conversation is about what the novel did to American horror and to American publishing\, and it will be candid in a way an anniversary panel usually is not\, because the people on it are family and collaborators rather than scholars. Note the venue: not the bookstore but the church hall up the street\, which seats several hundred and which Vroman's uses only for the events it expects to sell out. Ticketed\, and the ticket is the only way in. If you have ever argued about which film adaptation understood the book\, your people will be in that pew.
