SUMMARY:San Diego Gulls vs. Calgary Wranglers
DESCRIPTION:A Wednesday in December is the emptiest square on the calendar\, and in San Diego it is emptier than most because the city shuts down early and nothing replaces it. Minor-league hockey is the fix almost nobody thinks of. Calgary's farm club comes to Sports Arena Boulevard\, and a midweek crowd at Pechanga is small enough that the arena noise is just people — individual heckles\, a kid banging the glass\, the referee audibly telling somebody to knock it off. The hockey is faster and more reckless than the NHL version because none of these players have contracts worth protecting yet\, which produces more fights and considerably more mistakes. If you have been meaning to take somebody to a hockey game and been put off by Crypto.com Arena pricing\, this is the version that actually works. Parking is flat-rate and the lot empties in ten minutes afterward\, which is its own argument against driving downtown on a weeknight. Seven o'clock\, Wednesday the ninth.
LOCATION:Pechanga Arena San Diego\, 3500 Sports Arena Blvd\, San Diego\, CA 92110
