SUMMARY:THE DAMNED - FINAL DAMNATION 50
DESCRIPTION:Fifty years is long enough that the farewell is not a marketing device\, it is arithmetic. The band that put out the first British punk single in 1976 is coming through San Diego on a tour openly titled Final Damnation\, and the people in that room will be doing the arithmetic too: this is likely the last time Dave Vanian fronts a room this size in this city. Punk's first record belonged to these men and they then spent four decades refusing to stay punk\, drifting into gothic\, psychedelic and music-hall territory that irritated purists and produced the better half of their catalogue. The Courettes open\, which is a genuinely good pairing rather than filler. Seven o'clock on a Friday at a venue downtown that holds a thousand people\, which is both too small for the history and exactly the right size for the noise. Bring the teenager in your life who thinks they invented this. Let them see where it came from while it is still standing in front of them.
