SUMMARY:Swirlies\, Seko
DESCRIPTION:Shoegaze bands from 1992 mostly do not come back\, and when they do it is usually a nostalgia circuit playing to people holding drinks at arm's length. This is not that. Swirlies never really stopped being strange.\n\nOut of Boston\, they were always the messiest of the American shoegaze groups\, more interested in tape experiments and abrupt structural collapse than in the wall-of-sound tidiness the genre got known for. Thirty-odd years on\, the records still sound like somebody dropped them. Seko open.\n\nThe first week of January is the deadest stretch of the year for live music in this city\, which makes a show like this feel conspiratorial. Everyone there made an effort to be there. Nobody stumbled in off a holiday party.\n\n21+. Doors 7:30\, music 8:30. $25-$30 at 2501 Kettner Boulevard.
