SUMMARY:Friends in Real Life @ The Che Café
DESCRIPTION:He quit\, and the quitting is why a room this small is going to be hard to get into. A songwriter who meant every word about getting out\, who walked away from the project people tattooed lyrics from\, does not play often - and when he does it is acoustic\, in a volunteer-run co-op\, for people who found those songs during the worst year they have had. The band is his family: a brother\, and a father on synths and horns\, which reframes the whole catalogue if you know what the old songs were about. All ages\, no alcohol\, a building on a university campus that has nearly been shut down more than once and keeps not closing. Six on Saturday in La Jolla\, $20. Folk punk down here survives in living rooms and co-ops\, and the people who keep it going mostly know each other by first name.
