SUMMARY:Green Velvet + Slugg\, Ose\, Heminguey
DESCRIPTION:Chicago invented this and then watched everybody else get rich from it\, which gives the surviving originals a particular authority that no amount of production polish buys. The man headlining has been making records with a sense of humour since the early nineties\, which is rarer in dance music than it should be\, and the tracks have a knack for being silly and completely functional at once. A five o'clock start is the detail worth noticing. That turns the whole thing into an afternoon rather than a night\, with a crowd that spans people who bought the twelve-inches and people who found them in a set last year. Both groups behave considerably better in daylight. There is no mystique to hide behind at that hour\, and the records hold up anyway\, which is the entire point of booking somebody with a thirty-year catalogue.
