SUMMARY:Mersiv + Seth David
DESCRIPTION:Bass music has its own ecosystem\, its own dress code and its own vocabulary\, and it operates almost entirely outside the attention of anybody who writes about music. That self-sufficiency is its strength. The records are built around low frequencies doing physically unusual things\, best described as sculptural rather than melodic\, and they do not survive translation to a laptop speaker at all. In a yard with a stacked system in the middle of the afternoon they make total sense. The crowd is young\, extremely friendly and dressed with real commitment\, and first-timers consistently report being surprised by how welcoming it is given how abrasive the music sounds from outside. Come early. The support slots in this scene are frequently where the interesting production is happening. The production on the opening sets is routinely more adventurous than the headline slot\, because nobody at that hour is trying to keep a full room happy.
