SUMMARY:The Widdler\, Die by the Sword\, Phir
DESCRIPTION:Dubstep means two entirely different things depending on who is saying it\, and this is the other one\, the slow half-step kind that never left the UK sound-system tradition. Sparse\, enormous\, patient\, built on the assumption that a sub-bass note is a musical event in itself and does not need decoration. Audiences for this tend to stand still and nod rather than dance\, which looks undemonstrative and is actually total absorption. Three acts across a night means the weight accumulates. The people who care about this are evangelical in a quiet way and have usually spent years correcting other people's assumptions about the genre. Earplugs genuinely recommended\, not as a caution but because the frequencies you came for sit below the ones that damage you. Three acts also means three different readings of what weight is for\, and the disagreements between them are the most interesting part of the night.
