DESCRIPTION:Costa Mesa is not where anybody expects to find the heavy end of bass music\, which is exactly why the Orange County bass scene has the character it does: slightly isolated\, extremely online\, and fiercely loyal to the handful of venues willing to book this at all. A room above a shopping complex is an unglamorous setting for music this physical and nobody there minds in the slightest. The production on offer is grimy and low-slung\, closer to the UK lineage than to the American festival sound\, and it works best in a space small enough that the sub is in your chest rather than across a field. Late start\, Saturday\, a crowd of a few hundred who mostly know each other by handle rather than name. If you have assumed this music only happens in Los Angeles\, the drive south is shorter than you think.
