SUMMARY:A Listening Session of Forever My Lady by Jodeci
DESCRIPTION:There are records you cannot put on casually\, because you already know what the first eight bars will do to you. Jodeci made one of those in 1991 - four voices out of Charlotte who sang like they were apologizing and bragging in the same breath\, on an album a whole generation played in cars they did not own yet and then played again at the wedding. This is not a tribute set and not a DJ night\, and nobody is going to play you the hits off it either. It is the record\, in order\, all the way through\, deep cuts and interludes included\, in a room on East 4th Street\, put on with Universal's catalog division for the thirty-fifth anniversary. The part nobody warns you about a listening session is how quiet it gets - and then how fast that breaks the first time somebody in the back sings an ad-lib nobody asked them to sing. Free\, first come. Dolores\, doors at 6.
