SUMMARY:Haley Heynderickx
DESCRIPTION:Her first record was called I Need to Start a Garden\, and it took seven years for the second one to arrive\, which is either a joke about gardening or the most honest thing a songwriter has done this decade. Seed of a Seed came out and the people who had been waiting did not act surprised - they behave at these shows less like an audience and more like congregants. She plays fingerstyle\, she stops songs partway to talk\, and she has a way of getting a full room to go so quiet you can hear the building settle around her. Greg Mendez opens\, which is its own reason to come early: he writes short\, plain\, devastating songs that make the main set land harder than it would cold. This is the Los Angeles stop\, a night after the San Diego one\, in a South Pasadena room that holds a few hundred and lets the ceiling do the rest.
