SUMMARY:Emile Mosseri And Friends
DESCRIPTION:The word Friends on a bill is usually filler. Here it is the entire ticket\, because nobody announces who they are. Mosseri writes film scores - the kind that quietly do most of the emotional work while you are busy watching the actors - and once a year he books a room in South Pasadena\, calls in the people he knows\, and plays a benefit where the lineup stays a rumour until it walks onstage. Fourth year running. Seating is partial and first come\, which in practice means the people who care arrive an hour early and the room sorts itself by devotion rather than by price. It is a benefit\, so the money goes somewhere other than a tour bus. And it falls eight days before Christmas\, which is exactly when a room full of strangers singing along to something nobody advertised does the most damage to a person.
