October is when the Smash competitive calendar contracts. The summer regionals are over, the winter majors are approaching, and the monthly circuit is where the work gets done in between. Players who know they have a winter regional coming use October Monthlies to test their reads and their execution against familiar opponents. The competition level in October reflects all of that — the room is serious.
