About

Barrio Logan is built around Chicano Park, where the pillars of the Interstate 5 overpass became the canvas for one of the largest murals in California. The monthly art crawl treats that context not as backdrop but as the point.

On art crawl nights, Logan Avenue activates. Galleries and studios open extended hours. Artists who work in the neighborhood are in their spaces. The food comes from the community. The crowd is mixed: longtime residents who remember when the murals were being painted, and people who found the neighborhood through social media and are arriving for the first time. Neither group is wrong to be there.

What the art crawl makes visible is that Barrio Logan has been a working creative community for fifty years, independent of any art district designation from outside. The recognition is arriving slowly. The work has been here all along.

Logan Ave, Barrio Logan, San Diego, CA 92113. Free. Monthly — typically the third Saturday of each month, 5–10pm.
