About

Soul-leaning songcraft from one band, jangle-forward melody from the other, and neither one needs an opener to warm up a Friday -- that's the co-headline you build when you actually respect both the room and the catalog. The Midnight Pine has been the San Diego soul-pop project to know for over a decade; The Color Forty Nine works the jangle-pop side with the same care. Music Box is the right place for a bill like this: five hundred capacity, downtown, the room that fills without anybody padding the lineup. Bring the friend who's in two other local bands. The crowd is the SD indie circuit -- players from three other groups, the tape-trader contingent, the people who heard the demos on the right SoundCloud and showed up specifically for this combination. Friday, August 21. Doors at seven, music at eight. Twenty to twenty-five at the door.

The Midnight: Time Machines Tour — SOMA San Diego
Sep 18, 2026 SOMA, 3350 Sports Arena Blvd, San …

You know that feeling at 2 AM when you're driving and an old synth line comes on and suddenly the highway looks like a movie you starred in twenty years ago? That's The Midnight's entire catalogue, and it's even more devastating live. Tyler Lyle and Tim McEwan built a cult following by making music that sounds like the soundtrack to a John Hughes film that was never made — all neon-drenched synths, saxophone breaks that have no business being that emotional, and vocals that treat nostalgia like a superpower rather than a disease. Their fifth album Syndicate leans harder into the sci-fi side, pulling from the same well that gave us Blade Runner and Stranger Things, but the live show is where the community reveals itself. This isn't a crowd watching a band. This is a congregation of people who all independently discovered that synthwave is a feeling, not a genre. SOMA Mainstage in San Diego hosts them September 18 at 8 PM. All ages — which matters, because the younger fans in this scene are the ones keeping it alive. If you've never been to SOMA, it's a raw concrete box with excellent sound, exactly the kind of room where a synth line bounces off every wall and finds you personally. The Time Machines tour is named for good reason: two hours inside and you'll swear the decade changed around you.

GTA 6 Midnight Launch — GameStop San Diego
Nov 20, 2026 GameStop, 7007 Friars Rd, San Dieg…

You could stand in a parking lot at midnight with a speaker going and everyone you know awake for the same reason - or you could refresh a digital storefront alone. One of those is a story you tell later. GTA VI arrives in San Diego at the same instant it lands everywhere, but the people in this GameStop lot when the clock flips 12:01 chose to be there. Midnight launches at a real store have their own physics: the line forms early, someone brings a speaker, and the whole lot takes on that specific group-chat energy. The Friars Road location has the room for it - get there before 10 if you want to be anywhere near the front. GTA VI is projected to be the largest entertainment launch in recorded history, but that's not why people line up. They line up for the countdown, the doors opening, the first screenshot dropping in the group chat at 12:02 AM. The digital download will always exist. The parking lot on launch night only exists once. GameStop, 7007 Friars Rd, San Diego. November 19th into the 20th - doors at 11 PM, copies out at 12:01 AM. Confirm your pre-order at this location at gamestop.com.

GTA 6 Midnight Launch — GameStop Temecula
Nov 20, 2026 GameStop, 40474 Winchester Rd, Tem…

Winchester Road GameStop, Temecula. November 19th into the 20th. Doors open at 11 PM, copies go out at 12:01 AM — GTA VI midnight launch, the game that the entire industry has been orbiting for years, landing in your hands in the middle of the night the way a game this size should land. Line up before 11. Bring your crew if they're picking up copies — bring them anyway if they're not. The parking lot before a midnight launch has its own energy that doesn't require a purchase to access. There will be people who drove from further than makes sense. There will be someone in a GTA V hoodie they've had since college. There will be the specific group-chat activity of a night where everyone is awake at the same hour for the same reason. The 40474 Winchester Road location has the space for it. Get there early enough to have a spot in line rather than a spot at the back of the lot. The next morning the internet will be a different place than it was the day before. Be the person who had the copy at 12:02 AM.

You found your people.

They didn't know each other before Falkor either.
