About

When the roller coasters keep running after dark and the things chasing you through the fog are real people in makeup who have waited all night for someone exactly as scared as you, the thrill doubles. Fright Fest turns Magic Mountain — already the roller-coaster capital of the world — into an after-dark gauntlet of haunted mazes, roaming scare zones, and top-tier coasters ridden blind in the black. For the thrill-seekers who count down to October all year, this is the main event: the adrenaline of the drops and the adrenaline of the scares stacked on top of each other until you cannot tell which scream is which. Come with the friends who will abandon you the second a chainsaw revs. Select nights beginning in September. Come if you want the coaster junkie's adrenaline and the haunt lover's dread in the same night. September 19, 2026, Six Flags Magic Mountain, 26101 Magic Mountain Pkwy, Valencia.

Practical Magic 2
Sep 11 – Sep 13, 2026 From $15 Major theaters nationwide, USA

The original arrived in 1998 and found its people not on opening weekend but in the years after - the ones who watched it on repeat, quoted it, built an affection for it the box office never predicted. That audience has been waiting, and a sequel to a cult film is one of the few movie events where the opening-weekend crowd is not remotely casual. These are the people who saw the first one enough times to know exactly what they want from this one, and who will be vocal about whether they got it. The theater will be full of that specific intensity - part anticipation, part protectiveness, part genuine excitement that this is happening at all. See it opening weekend, before the discourse shapes how you see it. The conversation around a cult sequel moves fast and forms opinions before most people have tickets. The shared experience of watching something this anticipated with people who cared the same way is not replicable once the first weekend passes. Practical Magic 2 opens September 18th, 2026, at theaters nationwide, from $15.

Parlour Magic + Teeel at Soda Bar
Aug 10, 2026 $15-$18 Soda Bar, 3615 El Cajon Blvd, San …

It's one in the morning and you want to stay in the same room with somebody for one more hour -- that's the song Parlour Magic keeps writing. The LA duo makes patient electronic music that rewards close listening: analog warmth, layered vocals, dance music that can actually carry a narrative if you let the synth lines take their time. Teeel opens, and it's the kind of pairing that lifts both -- New Jersey-based, vaporwave-adjacent, a producer's producer. Soda Bar is the room -- three hundred capacity, El Cajon Boulevard, fifteen dollars at the door. Bring the one person you'd want to stay up with. Monday, August 10, and Monday in San Diego means the crowd is the people who genuinely wanted to be there and nobody else. Doors at eight, music at eight-thirty.

Magic of the Jack O'Lanterns
Sep 19, 2026 South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 …

Before the jump-scares and the fake blood, Halloween was gentler — really just wonder at a candle inside a carved face, multiplied past the point of reason, until an evening walk becomes something close to reverence. Magic of the Jack O'Lanterns is that feeling made enormous: a mile-long walking trail lit by more than ten thousand hand-carved pumpkins, no monsters, no screams, just the warm orange glow of impossible craftsmanship winding through the dark of the South Coast Botanic Garden. Some are portraits, some are scenes, all of them are lit from within and gone in a week. It is made for the families with small kids, the couples who want atmosphere without adrenaline, the people who love October for its beauty and not its fear. Bring a jacket and walk slowly. Come if you think a candle inside a carved face is quietly one of the best things humans do. September 19, 2026, South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd, Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Slow Magic

Nobody knows exactly who Slow Magic is, and that's the whole enchantment: an anonymous producer in a glowing animal mask who plays live drums over shimmering, tribal, emotional electronic music, turning every show into something between a rave and a ritual. His cult following treats each performance like a secret handshake, and an intimate San Diego set at the Casbah is exactly the kind of small, sweaty, transcendent night the mainstream will never know about. Thursday, September 24, 2026, The Casbah in San Diego. Come for the masked mystery, the pounding live drums, the glow, and a crowd of true believers dancing with their eyes closed. Bring the friend who loves a little magic with their music. This is the hidden, luminous, big-hearted underground at its very best. Let it carry you somewhere else.

SCG CON Los Angeles 2026 — Magic: The Gathering
Oct 9 – Oct 11, 2026 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

There are only two US Regional Championship stops in 2026. This is one of them. SCG CON Los Angeles runs October 9-12 at the Marriott Burbank, with the Regional Championship as the headline tournament — one of the highest-stakes competitive Magic: The Gathering events in the country. The weekend runs a full slate alongside it: Classic opens, side events, Commander pods, and the dealer hall. Star City Games runs the circuit. The Regional Championship determines who qualifies for the national series. If your Magic game is competitive, the question is whether this trip makes the season schedule. The side events run across all four days — $10 entry drafts, Commander brackets, and Standard opens that don't require the Regional grind. The dealer hall is one of the better places to buy and trade singles in Southern California. Marriott Burbank, October 9-12. The $10 entry side events run across all four days and don't require Regional-level preparation. Good entry point for players building toward the circuit.

MagicCon: Atlanta 2026 — Atlanta, GA
Nov 13 – Nov 15, 2026 Georgia World Congress Center, Bui…

Wizards of the Coast brings the official Magic: The Gathering convention to Atlanta — three days of competitive play, exclusive reveals, and side events that don't exist at a local game store. Step into MagicCon and the scale of the Magic ecosystem becomes visceral. The main hall hosts commander pods running nonstop, side event drafts firing every 90 minutes, and a merchandise floor stocked with exclusive foil treatments and collector editions that do not exist outside the convention walls. The World Championship stage draws a live audience who understands the stakes — watching a pro player navigate a complex board state in a top-8 match is legitimately thrilling even to non-competitive attendees. Panel stages feature lead designers previewing the upcoming set, Reality Fracture, with reveals that ripple across the entire community within minutes of announcement. Meet-and-greets with pro players and content creators run throughout the weekend, though they fill fast. The atmosphere skews intensely knowledgeable — this crowd knows what a Rhystic Study is, why it is obnoxious, and will argue about it with warmth. MagicCon Atlanta is for anyone who plays Magic with genuine investment — not necessarily competitive, but committed. If your Friday nights involve a Commander pod and you have at least one deck you have been tuning for six months, you will feel completely at home here. This is not a casual spectator event. It is for the player who loves the game enough to fly across the country for three days of it. First-timers to MagicCon frequently say the same thing: they had no idea how large and how skilled the community actually is until they walked in. Register for ticketed play events before the convention — sealed and draft pods sell out weeks in advance. Bring your trade binder if you have one: the secondary market area moves fast and has genuine deals. Badge merchandise must be picked up onsite; if you miss the pickup window before close on Sunday, you forfeit it. The Worlds stage is open to badge holders but seating near the feature match area is first-come, standing room fills by round 4 of the top 8. Bring cash for artist alley — many illustrators are cash-only and the original card alters available from top artists are some of the most collectible items in the room. For the Magic community, this is not just an event. It is the proof that the game is still alive, still evolving, and still worth every dollar you have spent on it. MagicCon: Atlanta 2026 runs November 13-15 at the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta. Tickets at mtgfestivals.com.
