What it was like

The trick to a midweek market is that it forgives you for having a job. You get an hour. You are not doing a whole grocery run and nobody expects you to. You are going to walk a few rows, pick up bread that is still warm, buy more stone fruit than one person reasonably eats, and carry it back to your afternoon so the rest of the day stops feeling like a Wednesday. That is the entire proposition here, and it is a better one than it sounds. Local produce, fresh bread, honey, pastries, and the artisan tables that make the same market feel different depending on who turned up that week. It is free to browse, which means it is also free to linger, and lingering is most of the point. The regulars have their loop down to a route and their vendors down to first names. Bring the coworker who eats lunch at their desk every single day, without exception. Make them walk it with you once.
