There's a specific joy in cracking a pack of cards nobody has seen in play yet — no strategy guide exists, no one has "solved" anything, and for one weekend the newest Magic set belongs to whoever reads it fastest at the table. That's a Prerelease. Magic's Hobbit set brings Middle-earth into the frame — Bilbo, Gandalf, Smaug, the One Ring — and you meet all of it the way it's meant to be met: six sealed packs, a deck built on the spot, a table of complete strangers figuring it out together in real time. Nobody has an advantage because nobody has seen these cards do their thing yet. By the third round you'll have opinions, inside jokes, and at least one story about a Smaug you should have blocked.
