About

Watching someone play a vintage table well is watching a person understand a machine more intimately than its designer ever intended - specific cabinets with specific quirks that the regulars have mapped across hundreds of games. Competitive pinball is not what most people picture when they hear competitive gaming, and that gap is exactly the reason to come.

The players are serious and the machines have histories. Because it is an open format, spectators can watch the tournament tables while playing the surrounding machines - you are inside the event without being required to compete. IFPA sanctioning means the rankings are real and the players traveled to be here, and Dave & Buster's has the floor space and machine selection to run it properly.

Forty-eight hours. One theme. A room full of people who cannot stop building things. The IGDA San Diego Summer Game Jam drops you into Mesa College on a Friday evening, reveals a theme at 6 PM, and dares you to ship a playable game by Sunday at 7 PM. Professionals, hobbyists, first-timers — the door is open to anyone 18 or older who wants to make something from nothing in a weekend. Teams of up to six, or solo if you are that kind of person. No pre-built assets. No recycled code. Everything starts from zero when the theme hits. This is not a conference. There are no panels. There is no networking hour with name tags. There is brunch on Saturday and dinner provided, because the organizers know nobody is leaving the building. The game showcase on Sunday night is the only part that feels like a presentation — and by then, every team is running on caffeine and the specific kind of pride that comes from watching something you did not know you could build actually work. IGDA San Diego has been running these jams for years. The community is tight enough that regulars greet each other, loose enough that a newcomer with a laptop and an idea can walk in and be on a team by 7 PM Friday. Free to jam remotely. The 27th Annual All-American Car Show takes over Embarcadero North at Seaport Village for one summer morning. All vehicles welcome — domestic, foreign, exotic, trucks, motorcycles. No era excluded.
