You hear the Blue Angels before your eyes find them - a tearing roar overhead, then six F/A-18 Hornets crossing in tight formation at over 700 mph, feet apart, rolling and looping while a field of 800,000 people tilts their heads back at the same instant. Watching the Blues live is a thing that never becomes ordinary. The ground display is its own reward: over 100 aircraft you can walk right up to - Marine Corps helicopters, fighter jets, cargo planes, historic warbirds, civilian aerobatic craft - close enough to photograph and to talk with the crews who fly them. Civilian stunt pilots, vintage warbird formations, skydiving demonstrations, and military parachute teams fill out the day. It's one of the largest free air shows in the United States, a tradition for military families across the region, and it draws its crowd across three days over Miramar in North San Diego. MCAS Miramar sits at the intersection of I-15 and I-805. Admission is free; shuttle buses run from remote parking. Gates open at 8 AM and the field fills fast - arrive early, bring sunscreen, water, and low chairs. No outside food, no large bags. October 2026.
