About

Every May, the Temecula Duck Pond becomes something extraordinary. The Flags of Honor installation surrounds Veterans Memorial Park with hundreds of full-size American flags, creating one of the most visually striking patriotic displays in the Inland Empire. The flags fly from mid-May through June 1, but the Memorial Day Observance on May 25 is the centerpiece of the entire installation.

The City of Temecula and local VFW posts host a formal ceremony at 10 AM featuring a live performance by the Temecula Valley Symphony, patriotic readings, a wreath-laying, and remarks from community leaders. The Duck Pond amphitheater setting -- surrounded by flags, adjacent to Veterans Memorial Park -- makes this one of the most visually memorable Memorial Day events in all of SoCal.

This is hometown Temecula at its best: a genuine civic tradition that draws families, veterans, and first-timers alike. The symphony performance sets it apart -- this is not just a ceremony with remarks, it is a full observance with real musical weight behind it.

Free and open to the public. Arrive by 9:45 AM for good standing room. Park along Ynez Road or in the adjacent shopping center lots. The flags installation is worth a visit any day between May 18 and June 1.

San Diego Brew Fest
In 10 days · May 30 NTC Park at Liberty Station, 2455 …

San Diego Brew Fest takes over NTC Park at Liberty Station on May 30, 2026 — seventy-plus local and regional breweries, unlimited tastings, live music, food trucks, and zero pretension in one of the best outdoor event spaces in the city. San Diego's beer scene is real. The concentration of craft breweries here is not a marketing claim — it's why beer tourists come to this city specifically, why the industry pays attention, and why Brew Fest draws breweries that are genuinely proud of what they're pouring. The NTC Park lawn at Liberty Station handles the crowd with room to spare, and the setting — converted naval buildings, wide open space, the bay just past the tree line — makes it feel like the right backdrop for an afternoon of this kind. Seventy-plus breweries means you are not going to get to all of them. That's the game: pick your path, talk to the people pouring, find something you didn't know you were going to like. Two sessions run back-to-back — afternoon and evening. Check sdbrewfest.com for exact session times and ticket availability. General admission and designated driver tickets are both available. Parking: NTC Park has on-site lots along Truxton Rd that fill early for events of this size. The neighborhoods surrounding Liberty Station (Loma Portal, Point Loma) have street parking within a 10-minute walk. Rideshare drop-off works well — the entrance is easy to access from the main gate on Historic Decatur Rd. Bring a layer — Liberty Station cools off as the afternoon turns to evening, even in May.

66th Annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival 2026
In 2 days · May 22 – May 25 ✨ New Village Green Park, 12732 Main St,…

For 66 years, Garden Grove has closed out May with the biggest strawberry celebration on the West Coast. The 2026 edition -- timed to America's 250th anniversary -- is their most ambitious yet. Four full days, one of the last truly free summer fairs in Southern California. Full schedule: Friday May 22 (1-10 PM), Saturday May 23 (10 AM-10 PM), Sunday May 24 (10 AM-10 PM), Monday May 25 (10 AM-9 PM). The Saturday parade kicks off at 10 AM through downtown Garden Grove. Across four days: free strawberry shortcake (genuinely free -- one of the few things left in SoCal that costs nothing), carnival rides, a strawberry fashion contest, the iconic redhead competition, pie-eating contests, live music on multiple stages, hundreds of artisan and food vendors, and the kind of summer fair energy you cannot manufacture. The strawberry shortcake line on Monday afternoon is a tradition of its own. General admission to the festival grounds is free. Carnival rides and some attractions are pay-per-ride. Parking is available throughout downtown Garden Grove. Nearest transit: OCTA Route 43 stops on Main Street directly adjacent to the festival entrance.

Fiesta Hermosa 2026 — Memorial Day Weekend
In 3 days · May 23 – May 25 Pier Plaza, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254

Fiesta Hermosa fills the heart of downtown Hermosa Beach across Memorial Day weekend with over 250 juried art and craft vendors, live music across multiple stages in Pier Plaza, local food and beverage vendors, and the full South Bay beach-city social scene in rare concentrated form. One of the most consistently attended street festivals in the South Bay, running since 1971 — Memorial Day and Labor Day editions mark the bookends of the beach summer. The vendor footprint runs through Pier Plaza and along the Strand from 11th Street toward the pier, covering several blocks of walkable beach-adjacent streets. Admission to browse is free. Music and performance stages run through the afternoon and into the evening on both Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Food vendors lean local — South Bay restaurants and specialty food makers. Parking in the nearby structure at 8th and Hermosa is the most reliable option; plan to walk several blocks in. Rideshare drop-off works well on the Strand. Check fiestahermosa.net for vendor map, stage schedule, and hours for the Memorial Day weekend edition.

TOArts presents the YALA Film Festival
In 3 days · May 23 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd, Scherr…

Thousand Oaks, May 23rd. The Scherr Forum at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center becomes a film festival for one evening — the YALA Film Festival, brought by TOArts to a venue with the acoustics and sightlines to make cinema feel like the event it was always meant to be. Film festivals at proper performing arts venues operate differently than multiplex screenings. The room holds the sound the way it was designed to. The audience assembles with intention — these are not passive ticket-buyers, they are people who chose a festival over a regular movie night. The programming at YALA is curated with a specific editorial eye, which means the films that appear here have been selected for a reason. The conversation that surrounds a festival screening turns two hours of film into an evening. Tickets at ticketmaster.com — lock your seats before the event fills. The Scherr Forum is a legitimate performing arts venue, built for this kind of experience. A film festival at a real theater is the version of moviegoing that reminds you why cinemas exist: the collective attention, the shared reaction, the walk out afterward when everyone is still inside what they just watched. Don't miss it — ticket availability is limited at a venue this size.

LA Galaxy Star Wars Night — vs Houston Dynamo
In 3 days · May 23 18400 Avalon Blvd, Carson, CA 90746

Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson. May 24th, 2026. The LA Galaxy Star Wars Night against the Houston Dynamo is the version of an MLS match where the uniform and the narrative both arrive from a galaxy far away — limited-edition Star Wars jersey night, themed in-stadium elements, and professional soccer on the grass underneath it. Galaxy Star Wars nights have become events in their own right. The pregame energy carries the specific combination of sports anticipation and franchise fandom that produces something neither category generates alone. The jerseys are collectible — the limited edition versions that players wear during the match are the kind of item that surfaces at memorabilia shows years later with a story attached. Kids in full costume move through the same concourse as adult supporters who have been watching the Galaxy for years. The soccer itself is the anchor. The Dynamo are a legitimate Western Conference team; this is not a friendly or an exhibition. Professional MLS soccer at a proper stadium, with a crowd animated by the night's theme and the match's stakes simultaneously, is the kind of event that works whether you came primarily for the game or primarily for the galaxy. lagalaxy.com/starwars for tickets and the jersey program details. The themed sections are the move.

Vista Strawberry Festival Coming Soon 3 days away

Vista Strawberry Festival
In 4 days · May 24 Downtown Vista, E Broadway & India…

Downtown Vista, May 24th. Free admission. E Broadway and Indiana Avenue turns into something that only happens once a year and only happens here — a whole town not performing its festival, but actually having one. The Strawberry Queen coronation is not ironic. The Strawberry Idol competition is not curated for an outside audience. The parade down Main Street draws people who've watched it for twenty years and people who moved here last spring and can't believe this is real. Vista does this with the confidence of a place that knows what it is and doesn't need validation. Food vendors line the blocks — strawberry shortcake in its honest form, the kind with the real biscuit, not the grocery-store shell. Local bands and school groups fill the entertainment stages not because a festival promoter booked them but because this is the town's stage. The kids are sticky-mouthed and running. The older couples have a usual spot. The weather in late May in Vista sits in the range where you don't think about weather at all, which is the best kind. No ticket needed. Bring a blanket if you want a parade spot. The strawberry lemonade is not optional.
