Described by its organizers as therapy at 120 decibels. The crowd bears that out. House of Heavy is San Diego’s nu-metal night: Slipknot, Korn, Deftones, Mudvayne, System of a Down, and the wave of heavier acts that followed — Knocked Loose, Spiritbox, Bad Omens, Motionless in White.

What makes House of Heavy distinct from a standard metal night is its identity. Nu-metal carries baggage -- the genre was declared embarrassing by critics around 2003 and never officially rehabilitated. But its audience never stopped listening. This is a night for people who maintained that Deftones were always good, that Slipknot's Iowa deserved its reputation, and that the turn-of-the-millennium wave of heavy music produced some of the most emotionally direct recordings in rock history.

Splash House's August edition runs August 14-16, 2026 across the Renaissance and Arrive Hotels in Palm Springs — pool parties from noon to sunset, an after-hours venue, and the one summer festival in California where the heat is fully the point. Palm Springs in August is 108 degrees, and Splash House leans into it completely: the pools run from noon, the DJ sets are built for peak afternoon sun, and the crowd is there specifically because they want to be in that heat. It is the most committed version of summer possible. The festival is hotel-based, which changes the logistics entirely. You stay on-site, walk between pools and stages, and skip camping lines and shuttle logistics entirely. The after-hours shows run at a separate indoor venue after the pools close. Everyone sees the finished floats roll down Colorado Boulevard on New Year's morning; almost nobody sees the wire framework underneath, the flowers being placed one at a time by hand in the days before. This is the tour that gets you behind that - the closest most people will ever come to the professional, all-organic float construction the Rose Parade is known for worldwide. The Decorating Facilities Walk lets you see the floats in various stages of completion in the final weeks before January 1: the framework, the application of natural materials, the hand-placing of individual flowers onto surfaces that will eventually form a coherent image - a process that gets more impressive the more of it you understand. The Doo-Dah Parade and the Showcase of Floats round out the season. The Tournament of Roses Association also opens its tournament house on Orange Grove Boulevard for scheduled tours, the headquarters of the organization that has run the parade since 1890. Facilities sit along Orange Grove Boulevard and in the surrounding Pasadena neighborhood; the working float barns are typically located in Pasadena and San Dimas along the 210 corridor. Tour tickets are available through the Tournament of Roses website. The Tournament of Roses House Tour runs in December 2026, timed to the final week before the January 1 parade.
