Every Thursday at five the intersection of Coast Highway and Pier View Way in Oceanside transforms into the kind of street market that people build their evening around. The Sunset Market runs until nine, and in that window the entire personality of downtown Oceanside comes out: international food vendors who have been perfecting their one dish for years, local artisans selling jewelry and ceramics they made that week, live musicians playing to a crowd that wandered over from the pier with a fish taco in one hand and nowhere to be. A dedicated children's area keeps the families happy, and the ocean breeze does exactly what an ocean breeze is supposed to do on a summer evening in North County. The market runs year-round, every Thursday, rain or shine — though rain is rare and the sunset shows up on schedule. Corner of Coast Hwy and Pier View Way, Downtown Oceanside. Thursdays 5 PM to 9 PM.
