A full symphony orchestra plays it straight, which is the part that gets people — no wink, no irony, Broadway vocalists singing this material like it deserves the treatment, because it does. Hercules, A Goofy Movie, Toy Story, Newsies, Aladdin, The Lion King, Tarzan, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, The Disney Afternoon. Rock-concert lighting and animation thrown up above the harbor while the orchestra works underneath it all.

This is not a children's show. It is the soundtrack of one specific emotional era, played outdoors on the water for the adults who never stopped humming it.
